How To Unblock Winter Olympics Live Streams From AnywhereBy Steph Myers / January 1, 2018 / Tags: Winter Olympics
Here’s how to unblock Winter Olympics live streams on a geo-blocked channel that’s not available in your location. Watch PyeongChang 2018 on the BBC outside the UK, on CBC outside Canada, and more.
The Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea will bring the world together for one of the globe’s biggest events. But while nations are uniting in sport, fans hoping to watch Winter Olympics live streams from a channel in a different country will face some annoying geo-blocks. That’s when access to content is blocked because of the location of the viewer. For example, the BBC’s website only lets people in the UK watch its live streams and videos.
Thankfully, there’s a simple way to unblock Winter Olympic live streams on free channels around the world. Here’s what to do so you can watch Winter Olympics online on BBC iPlayer, CBC, or another channel no matter what country you’re in.
We’ve test tons of ways to do this, and NordVPN is our favorite for unblocking Olympics coverage. That’s because it always gives the best, fastest stream quality; unblocks the BBC, CBC, and the other channels that will live stream the Olympics; and has super-simple apps available for every device.
Unblock Winter Olympics Streams On Free Channels From Anywhere
You can find a full list of all the channels that will be streaming the Winter Olympics in our definitive guide to watching PyeongChang 2018 live online.
In the US, NBC will live stream Olympics coverage (but note that a cable subscription is needed to watch). Note too that you won’t be able to live stream the Olympics Opening Ceremony on NBC. That’s the one part of the Games NBC is only showing over-the-air. So to watch the Opening Ceremony online from the US, you’ll need to unblock a site in another country.
Outside the US, the best options to watch the Winter Olympics online are the BBC in the UK, and CBC in Canada. Both these channels are free to watch once you bypass their geo-blockers. Here’s what to do.
Step-By-Step Help: How To Unblock Winter Olympics Live Streams On Geo-Blocked Sites
There are other options to unblock region-restricted content to stream the Olympics, but the easiest and most reliable way is by using NordVPN. We used it to watch the Rio Olympics online on the BBC and were never once disappointed.
Here’s how to set it up (takes about 5 minutes). I’ll use unblocking the BBC from outside the UK as an example — but the below method will work for any geo-blocked site or live stream, no matter what country you’re in.
STEP 1) Get a NordVPN account.
STEP 2) Download the NordVPN app
Download the app for the device you want to use. You can download multiple apps and can use NordVPN simultaneously on up to 6 different devices. Their apps are super easy to use, and are available for every device: smartphone, tablet, computer, router, media streamer, gaming console, or smart TV. Pretty much, if you have it, NordVPN will work on it.
STEP 3) Get connected and start watching the Winter Olympics on your channel of choice
Now open the app and connect to an NordVPN server. Choose a server located in the same country as the channel/website you want to access. For example, to unblock Winter Olympics streams on the BBC, connect to a U.K. server (we’ve had the best performance with the East London location). If you want to watch CBC, connect to a server in Canada.
Once you’re connected, NordVPN will take care of everything. Just visit the BBC, CBC, or any other geo-blocked content like you normally would, only now you’ll be able to access their live streams for free. You can also use their apps — for example, if you want to watch the Olympics on Roku. Or you can set up NordVPN on your router, or use a device like Chromecast to play the live streams on your TV.
Some VPNs we’ve tried have slowed down our connection, but NordVPN has always delivered super-fast streaming speeds without a glitch or interruption. You’ll also find you now have access to a whole slew of other geo-blocked content on sites and services (tons of new stuff on Netflix!), so do explore. It’s pretty cool.
Even if you have access to a live stream of the Olympics in your own country, for a world event like this it’s fun to watch coverage from other nations. Enjoy the Winter Games!
