Trying To Choose A VPN? Here’s Today’s Market FavoriteBy Lyn Atwood / March 5, 2019 / Tags: VPN Reviews
A plethora of different VPNs are available on the market today, with many companies competing for the lucrative data privacy and security market shares. A recent report by Global Market Insights shows the VPN market poised to hit $54 billion by 2024. Therefore, making a decision on which VPN is right for you can be bewildering, if not overwhelming. Fortunately, some recent research shows a clear frontrunner in this technology field–NordVPN.
Since VPN review sites may be misleading, possibly swayed by sponsorships, commissions, and other interests and so not necessarily reflective of the true market situation, these researchers used seven key metrics in order to objectively determine VPN market shares. They started by analyzing 100 different VPNs, to hone in on the ten strongest brands: NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Hotspot Shield, PIA, HideMyAss!, TunnelBear, IPVanish, CyberGhost, VyprVPN, and PureVPN. They then looked at VPN server counts for the past three years, along with other data, to get a broad picture of actual consumer usage.
Researchers rated each VPN on keyword search popularity, momentum (defined as “increase in interest”), social media strength, Google Play and Apple Appstore ratings, number of installations, and website traffic, as well as by country.
The countries included in this study were the US, UK, Russia, Turkey, and Australia. After analyzing ratings on best VPN, best free VPN, and best VPN for PC, Mac, and Android platforms, they reported that “NordVPN ranks higher than any other VPN brand for high-intent keywords in these five important countries.”
Detailed analysis of global branded search term volume revealed NordVPN as winner again, having by far the most branded searches per month of any VPN (1.3 million), with Hotspot Shield, a free VPN, as the closest competitor (1.05 million). The report concludes, “Our research puts NordVPN at the top in terms of global searches, as well as searches from the lucrative US market. It stands head and shoulders above the other competitors.”
NordVPN also was the greatest-trending VPN, with nearly double the interest of close competitor ExpressVPN. However, ExpressVPN did have the highest value for its organic website visitors at $2.5 million; NordVPN shows traffic worth $1.8 million. NordVPN shines for its three-year growth in number of servers, from 724 to 5079, 2.5 times higher than that of ExpressVPN.
This current in-depth analysis of all the top VPNs reveals that NordVPN is clearly dominating the market right now, with the research report conclusion stating, “Overall, we’re confident giving the crown for the VPN with the greatest market share (based on publicly available information) to NordVPN.” NordVPN is simply the VPN with the best metrics in the most categories today.
