Live Stream 2017 NBA Finals Without Cable — Game 5 Today

By Steph Myers / June 11, 2017 / Tags: ,

Here’s how to live stream the NBA Finals with a VPN — no cable or satellite needed.

Live stream 2017 NBA Finals free, without cable

It’s Finals time! If you don’t have cable, or are outside the US, you can still live stream the entire 2017 NBA Finals for free or cheap.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1) A 30-day free trial of YouTube TV

2) If you are NOT in Chicago, NYC, Philly, or San Francisco: A 30-day trial of ExpressVPN (use it to watch the Finals on YouTube TV from any location, then cancel and get a refund — thus streaming the entire Finals for free).

NBA Finals On YouTube TV

The NBA Finals are televised on ABC this year. You can live stream ABC on YouTube TV. So, if you get a free trial of YouTube TV and you can watch the entire Finals live online — without cable, satellite, or any other pay-TV subscription.

There’s just one problem.

YouTube TV is currently only available in a handful of cities: Chicago, LA, New York City, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. That leaves a lot of people in the lurch.

If YouTube TV isn’t available where you are, don’t fret. You can use a VPN to get YouTube TV in any location — either within the US or in another country.

Live Stream NBA Finals With A VPN — How To Get YouTube TV In Any Location

Here’s how to get a free trial of YouTube TV no matter where you are, so you can live stream every game of the 2017 NBA Finals.

STEP 1) Get a 30-day trial of ExpressVPN

YouTube TV is only available a handful of US cities. To watch the YouTube TV from any city  you need to bypass their location detectors. The way to do this is with a VPN. A VPN will route your connection through a secure server, thus “tricking” YouTube TV into thinking you’re in an approved area to get a free trial and watch its live streams.

As long as you’re connected through a VPN, you can watch YouTube TV just like if you were in an available city. Note that you will still need to sign up for a free trial of YouTube TV, or have an active account. This is a workaround for the location restrictions only.

Services like ExpressVPN let users bypass location restrictions on websites like YouTube TV.

ExpressVPN is a great VPN to use because it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. So if you just need access for a short time, you can cancel and get a refund. It’s a favorite for streaming TV because it delivers a five-star service all around. It is extremely fast (other VPNs can slow your connection to a maddening crawl), super easy, works on any device, and — even better — just works with no hassle. Plus, you can get 3 extra months free when you sign up for a 12-month plan.

Using a VPN has many benefits. First, it’s not only YouTube TV’s live stream you get access to. ExpressVPN works to unblock virtually every website in the world: NBC, CBS, FOX, plus tons of free UK TV channels like the BBC and ITV. It also unblocks Netflix, and other streaming services (Amazon Video, Hulu, Sling TV) so you can watch while abroad. And it’s great for streaming live sports on sites and services around the world. A VPN also prevents ISP throttling. And it’s a highly recommended online privacy and security tool to prevent data theft, spying, and tracking. More about how a VPN works and what you can do with it.

There are some good free VPNs out there, like TunnelBear. But they won’t work to unblock YouTube TV because you can’t choose a city to connect to. You can only choose by country. So you’ll need a VPN with more location options, like ExpressVPN. ExpressVPN is the best choice because it’s super fast, and they have a no-hassle refund policy, so you can use it to live stream the NBA Finals for free.

STEP 2) Download the ExpressVPN app

After you sign up for a 30-day trial, download the ExpressVPN app for the device (or devices) you want to use to watch the YouTube TV. They have great apps for every device: iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, etc.

STEP 3) Connect to an ExpressVPN server

Now, use the ExpressVPN app to connect to a secure server. The best servers to use to unblock YouTube TV are Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC, and New Jersey.

[If you’re wondering why DC and Jersey, when those aren’t available areas for the YouTube TV, I wondered too and asked ExpressVPN’s tech support. (They’re available 24/7 if you have any questions.) Unfortunately, the answer was too technical for me. Short version: they just work. Good enough.]

STEP 4) Start watching NBA Finals On YouTube TV

YouTube TV channels

Voila! You can now get a free trial of YouTube TV and start live streaming the NBA Finals on ABC. After you connect to an ExpressVPN server, go to YouTube TV to sign up for a free 1-moth trial. Or, if you already have an account, just use YouTube TV they way you always do. You’ll immediately have unlimited access to watch live and on-demand, on any device.

Some tips: Get a refund before 30 days runs out if you only want to use ExpressVPN to watch the NBA Finals. Clear the cookies on your device/computer after you connect to an ExpressVPN server. If you have any location services on your device, disable those.

Hopefully, YouTube TV will expand to more cities soon. But, until then, this workaround is a simple solution. I hope you enjoy watching YouTube TV as much as I do.
