CVM TV’s Indian Soap Operas Bring Jamaica To A Halt Everyday At 1PM SharpBy Lyn Atwood / April 9, 2016 / Tags: CVM TV, jamaica
Don’t try to schedule a lunch meeting in Jamaica, because the whole country stops to see what dramas will next unfold on its beloved CVM TV soaps.
Kingston, Jamaica — The hottest shows on Jamaica TV today are the Indian soap operas that air on CVM TV Jamaica each weekday afternoon, bringing the country to a standstill until the hour of drama, unrequited love, jealousy, family, failure, revenge and triumph is over.
If you want to conduct business in Jamaica, you better not do it between the hours of 1 and 2pm. That’s when CVM TV airs its lunchtime Indian soap operas, which practically the entire country stops to watch. The CVM Indian soaps ‘Strange Love’ and ‘It Seems So Beautiful’ can be seen playing on any office or restaurant TV during the lunch hour. According to the Jamaican news outlet The Gleamer, the shows are a national priority.
“Restaurants and office canteens switch [on] the channel religiously, and at 12:55 p.m., call-centre staff jostle with each other for the 1 p.m. lunch slot,” reported The Gleamer’s Patria-Kaye Aarons. “Administrative assistants for some senior executives, who shall remain nameless, have been given strict instructions to schedule no meetings between 1 and 2 p.m. One friend told me about being asked by staff at a funeral home to wait while they finished watching a particularly juicy episode two Fridays ago,” Aarons wrote.
CVM’s viewership is said to be higher than cable while its hit soap operas are on. Plus, the channel offers live stream so a broader audience of fans can watch CVM TV online. The CVM live stream shows ‘It Seems Beautiful’ at 1pm, followed by ‘Strange Love’ at 1:30pm Monday through Friday. Viewers outside of Jamaica, however, can’t access the dedicated live stream for Indian dramas without a workaround.
CVM TV Jamaica’s Indian soap operas are bright gems of TV entertainment not only for Jamaicans but for anyone who can relate to issues of family, love, and relationships. And those are themes that are truly universal.
