Watch Rio 2016 On Roku — If You Have Cable
If you have cable, then watching the Olympics on Roku is a snap. All you need to do is get the NBC Sports Live Extra app. You can download the app from the Roku Channel Store.
The NBC Sports app will let you live stream Rio 2016 on any Roku device throughout the Summer Games. There will be multiple streams available for different events taking place. You can also check results and watch highlights.

NBC is committed to live streaming the Summer Olympics during every minute of the action — with just one exception. You won’t be able to watch the Opening Ceremony on Roku or online. Only NBC’s over-the-air broadcast will show it.
Watch The Summer Olympics On Roku If You Don’t Have Cable
Without a cable subscription, watching the Games on Roku is trickier. But it can still be done if you’re willing to go to the effort.
You’ll need to get access to the BBC to make it work. Then you can use the BBC’s Roku app to live stream all the Olympics action on your Roku box or stick.
If you’re in the US, then you have to take an extra step to get access to the BBC Roku app. Here’s what you need to do.
First, you need to use a VPN service to connect to a server in the UK, and effectively mask your location in the US. There are lots of VPN services out there and any will work, but you may want to stick with one of these top VPNs for streaming.
After you get connected to a UK server using your VPN, then you need to create a new Roku account — a UK Roku account. Make sure you stay connected to the UK when you do this.
Then, you will need to set up your VPN on your router. Follow your VPN provider’s instructions on how to do this.
Once that’s done, and you have your UK Roku account, then you can download and install the BBC Roku app. Just make sure you’re using your VPN to connect via the UK throughout the time you’re watching.
If that’s too much trouble for you, there’s an easier way to watch the Summer Olympics online without cable.
